Checking on some previous work sites

Monday, 22-Jul 2013 @ 11:33pm

Ash and I have been limited in what we can do lately due to other commitments, but the trails in Region 1 are doing OK.  Everyone we talk to seems happy with the riding.  We are hoping to receive a delivery of drainage stone to complete the really damp sites.  In the meantime we are happy to check out the progress of previous works.

Like this from March 2013 till now

Old trail line is now a drainage and high point combination being reclaimed by the bush

The following section of Brett's was modified in February 2013

About 15 square metres of transplanted grass is thriving today

The following section of Three Hills has never been opened - but it has been ridden quite a bit.  It has had more time to stabilise (almost a year) and is a good example of how quickly the bush reclaims trail work.  What starts looking messy, quickly becomes quality and subtle singletrack; great for riding up or down and limiting riders to speeds suited to the trail by being a genuine singletrack

This trail should be sound for ages because the bush will take back all but what riders need.  In the following pics, some of the grasses were transplanted from the trail line

Trail closures must return to the bush ASAP.  On Three Hills, we closed the old Jack's Track using drainage trenches, added rock and organic matter.  The trail was 38% grade down the falline; consequently an erosion nightmare.  The closure is starting to revegetate as is the new trail near it

Looking forward to getting back on the tools soon, but there are always things happening in the background keeping us busy at night.  Will report back soon...
