This week on Three Hills

Sunday, 19-Oct 2014 @ 12:02am

Despite all the excitement and distraction of the last week, our current task is Three Hills Singletrack. This is an interesting section of trail and we have decided the best way to get it right is to build the features first and then finesse the rest, if poachers don't do it first.

The tree jump is still progressing.  We brought water and worked on the entry and exit today.  The next pics show another layer being added and wet down.  More pics of this feature follow later in the blog

Farther up the trail we have planned a line of three doubles leading to a right-left turn combination, where descending riders hit a blob that takes them into a left-turn berm to a hip.  We want this feature to direct riders onto the best approach line to the jump through our feature trees.  We also want it to protect a large root after the berm in a way everyone will enjoy, whether jumping the root, rolling the inside line or climbing inside the line of the root and the berm.

Here's how it started

and how it  changed

Back to the tree jump feature

where the entry drain to booter have not been finalised, but they are pretty good already

Up trail, the blob and berm combination are taking shape. With the help of some added water and tamping this section is starting to look like fun

The new Three Hills Singletrack is our priority, but MTBtrailcare has other obligations.  Closing the old Three Hills line is one, but it is a way off.  However, preparations are important and this week Ashley has been going out to the old (current) line after work.

While these pics may make the old trail look good, that was not Ashley's intention. Making the final closure easier and improving drainages above the new trail line were impotant

Drains, stockpiles and covering problems over with saved soil are part of the plan

Organic matter was added to an old trail line at the top end

and a large amout of dirt as well as organic matter was added to the lower part of the old line

Ash closed two old trail braids here as well

In the end, everyone will be happy

but the end is not now
