Casuarina Grove, Clean up. Febuary 11.

Monday, 11-Feb 2013 @ 8:57pm

I decided to go out after work again today.

I wanted to clean off the last bridge on Casuarina Grove, build a roller/drain where we droped off some stone for a repair last Friday as well as check up on some rollers that we made on last Fridays trailcare session.

The rollers were in better shape than I thought they would be after a weekend of use on fresh wet dirt.

So I added some blue-metal-stone to the top and pressed it in where tyre marks had formed.

Then it was time to rebuild an old drain. This drain was in the right place, but needed an update.
So I kept the drain where it was and dug it lower into the dirt, then added a roller on the downslope side to fill in some old erosion.

Before and after pics...

Then I finished my day by cleaning off the last bridge, (Not much to do there as it had been recently cleaned) and then added dirt to the existing roller in an effort to make the riding experience less abrupt.

On a side note... Between the Main-Entrance at the base of Three-Hills/Casuarina-Grove and the wheelie bin at the Velodrome, I collected 1/3 of a wheel barrow full of garbage.

Then once I had put all my tools away into my van, I decided to have a clean up in the Hope St Carpark. I had an additional 60 Litre garbage bag and filled it to the top with even more rubbish, and there is still some left to get another time.

This would be from Walkers/Runners, Road Bike Riders and MTB Riders as well as many others.

I ask that as MTB riders, we make an effort to remove what we bring so that we can enjoy the area we come to visit.

I don't mean to rant, but we can do better.

Ash.
