Norco Flow Trail: 5.5.13

Wednesday, 08-May 2013 @ 6:06pm

Volunteers present: Kurt, Jack, Nathan, Neil and Myself.

The trail care agenda for the day was to proceed back up to the trail head location and re-evaluate all recently completed works, touch-up things as required. We have not been on the hill since our last scheduled trail care day way back the 24.3.13, due to the Easter break and other commitments.

The allocated "rest and recovery" area at the trail head received a quick rake over, that was all it needed. Berm no.2 was looking a bit worse for wear. After some additional rock structure added to the backside and a few wheelbarrow loads of soil on the berm face, it's now back in good shape. The soil texture is unfortunately a little too dry and powdery, difficult to pack down firmly. The remainder of recently completed tasks are in excellent shape, no additional general maintenance work required at this stage.

We also managed to progress further down the trail line, completing an additional 40m of trail upgrade works - improved rider sight lines, installing/clearing drainage points, also a minor corner re-alignment. The new re-aligned corner apex was pushed upslope approx. 1m from original line to utilize a naturally occurring grade reversal. This will now assist with diverting rainwater runoff and improves trail flow with a nice little natural rock armoury section linking back to the original trail line. The discarded 2m portion of original trail line was returned to the forest, the area was covered with leaf litter and twigs to help promote regrowth of grasses. This new corner will require minor additional work next Sunday.

Below: sequence of the additional 40m of trail upgrade.

Ride safe,

Mick
