It's warm - look out for snakes AND we got stones

Thursday, 29-Aug 2013 @ 6:56pm

This is a little guy - 45cm.  The pic is from a phone camera and cropped.  The reptile was brown to tan with a cream belly and lighter face.  The body was not thin, making a grass snake, tree snake or whip snake unlikely.  There were no vestigial legs (yes I picked it up with a stick).  It was on the Centre Fire Road.

We don't see many snakes in the park - the odd red-belly black, but this early, warm weather is going to get snakes on the move.  It is also mating and laying season, so some snakes will be agressive.

Take care - this one was possibly a coastal taipan - neurotoxic death on a wiggly stick

ALSO, this week QPWS delivered rock to the Norco Flow and Slipstream trails, plus drainage stone to Petes.  Thanks QPWS, we appreciate it.

The Norco team will no doubt start using it immediately, but in Region 1, we need rain to use our supply of gravel.

Have a good long weekend and keep an eye on the calendar for next week's digging
