Zero metres made but oh so much better

Sunday, 15-Sep 2013 @ 4:33pm

Doug, Ash and I went back to the same bit of trail in the last Trail News update and continued working on a particularly difficult bit of terrain.  We were really happy with the outcome of last weekend's trailwork, but a fresh mind can see things more clearly.  This is clearly one of those places that define building sustainable trail - hard work.  If you don't regret starting then you aren't building properly!!!

The wall built last week has now been enhanced to allow riders a more confident line around the tree on the apex.  By elevating the trail through this turn, we were also able to route the trail higher on the hill, making the access line from above more stable and safe, while retaining a sensible gradient.  First some pics of the work and then the before and after images

It always amazes how making big changes can look subtle if they are done right.  Sorry about the bright light and contrast issues from today's pics (plus the dark trail stain left where we deposited our left over drinking water), but you get it

This

is now this

From above this

has become this

As an aside to the Three Hills work, we found a new pirate TTF on Happy Valley yesterday.  While we love a good log skinny, this one is the stuff of QPWS nightmares!  Any rider would say we need better.  As far as we can tell by reading them, IMBA rules do not seem to recommend the use of sand, pebbles and little, sticky, holder-upper thingys in their guidelines for TTF

Message of the day

If you do not provide appropriate TTF, "they" will build it.  Good luck with that....
