What a beautiful weekend

Sunday, 08-Dec 2013 @ 4:36pm

After fires clouded the sky for weeks we finally received rain and now the air is so clear you can see interstate with one eye.  Along with the clarity we have perfect skies and temperatures.  Anywhere on the Gold Coast has been the best place this week, including in Nerang National Park.

The recent signposting of Pete's Trail has created interest on the GCMTB Club Facebook site.  So many people ride in the park, that something like this does not go un-noticed.  It is nice to have played a key role in getting Pete's Trail and the new "Extension" section to a standard accepted by QPWS.  It was hard and long work, done by few.

As per previous posts, MTBtrailcare has already lodged with QPWS a number of recommendations and proposals for finishing Pete's Trail.  Some have already been  accepted and some are pending Native Title search.  While now signposted and official, Pete's Trail can and should become the signature Nerang trail it deserves to be.  GCMTB and the trail stewards who represent the club on Pete's Trail now have the guiding hand in getting that done.  MTBtrailcare will be available to help with the larger jobs, but we also have the sole responsibility of completing Three Hills re-routes.  Here's how things are going on Hill 2:

Doug and I were assisted by Doug's 10 and 12 year old daughters, Annie and Elisabeth this weekend; Annie on Saturday afternoon and Elisabeth this morning.  We finished the last section and worked on the start of a combination of corners and grade reversals leading up to the flats in the head of the valley.  Here's some before and then after pics

The final outcome allowed a full bench of the correct width, more contouring with better drainage and more curve to the corners

Farther uptrail you can see the intended radius of the next corner.  It will be followed by two more curves up to the hollow log in the center distance

From above the turn is starting to become obvious

Doug and I were discussing where and what would be appropriate corrals through this section.  Elisabeth had her own idea while we weren't watching

So that was enough for this weekend.  More to come soon.
