Casuarina Grove, Clean up. Friday Febuary 1.

Friday, 01-Feb 2013 @ 9:14pm

This afternoon Peter and I went out with the intention of walking Casuarina Grove from start to finish.

Our aim was to identify and report any large fallen trees that may have blocked our trails in the recent storms, remove any smaller fallen trees & sticks as well as clean up any materials that have been deposited on the bridges.

What we ended up doing was get very involved with two repairs, and so tomorow I will go out again to get further around Casuarina Grove.

Apart from removing many smaller sticks from the trail, we also cut up a fallen log that was partially covering the trail. (The black dirt across the trail is where the log originally was)

We then headed further along the trail to remove the build up of dirt and stone from the bridge as well as build a roller and a drain.

And a shot of the drainage from the side.

We then moved on to the the next bridge for more of the same.

Before pic of the deep erosion above the bridge.

We decided to solve the erosion that had been depositing large ammounts of silt onto the Bridge.
We did this by filling in the erosion and creating rolling grade dips with drainage cut into the hill for water removal from our low points.

Below is Peter about to try out our work and another pic of the repair.

Some pics of the newly cleaned bridge.

We also cut up the big log that was against the trail, the section we removed is now on the uphill side of the trail.

Im under no illusion about this being finished, I will have to come back as the soil compacts and gets ridden in the wet. I'll probably get out after work to keep an eye on it.

Im sorry for the lower quality pics, Louis usualy doccuments with a better camera.

Todays pics are from my phone camera.

Ash.
