Wet weather tidy up

Thursday, 28-Feb 2013 @ 6:30am

No pics, sorry.  Ash and I spent a few hours on Pete's yesterday.  We cleared out a lot of dead timber, trimmed sight lines, added a new rock corral near a stump and adjusted the tread to improve drainage in many places.  Everything is really wet and there are still trees falling.  A large one nearly took out the junction between Pete's and Brett's.

We believe it is not sensible to do any large works right now and for that reason we have not posted work on the calendar this weekend.  There is just too much water running below the surface, as well as falling from the sky.

It isn't stopping people riding.  Vulnerable sections of trail continue to be hammered by riders we call dirt roadies; people who put the need to prove themselves regardless of trail conditions, safety, respect for the wider MTB community and commonsense.  Off course, the most vulnerable sections of trail are where major works have been done over the last few months.  I'd like to say major works have been completed, but until the ground firms, we will have to return to a number of sites to do minor resurfacing.  That can be done after the final parts of the new Pete's sections are completed.

Overall and considering the inability to close trails, things are looking good on Pete's and we feel everything is still on track for re-inspection in the near future.

Louis
