A busy week

Sunday, 22-Sep 2013 @ 7:43pm

Although we didn't dig since last weekend, many things were done this week

The first was handing our master plan proprosal to QPWS at the Recreation Industry Forum in Brisbane on Wednesday

On Friday at a meeting with Sally Jarvis, Senior Project Officer for Sport GOLDOC, we presented our plan for the Commonwealth Games Mountain Biking events and how the legacy of the games and funding will best benefit the park and MTB after the Games come to Nerang

Saturday Ash and I went for a ride with Doug (finally after all the months of digging and not riding together) and Andrew Wilson, founder of SEQTA.  It was a great chance to show in real terms how Nerang trails can benefit from forward planning.  It was very encouraging hearing Andrew say he can understand our plan and supports the concept of developing Region 1 ASAP and opening up the park to all riders.  It was also a really, really good ride....

Then today Ash and I put in a 9 to 5 on Three Hills Singletrack.  Tasty stuff was created and metres were made.  We started with this

and then shaped out the downhill line.  The plan was to have a climbing line, a lesser downhill jump line and a higher and bigger downhill jump line

The downhill lines are effectively a big roller, like a rainbow ride, but without part of the line so you jump over grasses and a lomandra depending on the line you choose.  You make the rainbow!  The lip of the jump is hipped and shaped, so the higher up you launch, the higher you pop, but the tranny suits all lines

It started like this

but a better entry and better shape were required.  Notice the blob of saved excavations building in size.  We will coat it in Rocklet Chips when all work is finalised here.  Now it looks like a waste dump

To construct an entry line and an exit line involves more than just making a jump!  We worked on  trail 30m or so below the jump today.  Without a safe and convincing exit line, all sorts of horrors develop, including blown-out trail and braking bumps.

There was an unfinished section way below the jump where we left excavations piled over the trail  We cut the upslope into the hill about 30cm more right through the 30m below the landing.  It was always planned, but had to wait for the line to develop.  We also worked on the drainages and contours

The climbing line and drainage is starting to take shape.  It's next on the trailwork agenda

So, how did it turn out

Ah Ha
