A nice Wednesday afternoon

Wednesday, 17-Sep 2014 @ 7:48pm

Sadly, my back has decided to go bad on me and it looks like I've done my last trailwork for a while.  However, after a massage and painkillers, I did get to go for a walk and take pics of Ashley adding some touches to the walled turn.  Since the weekend there has been some rain and the layer of dirt and fine gravel we applied last weekend has been carried deeper into the ballast as expected

We plan to add a number of coats of soil to the turn and let them all settle into and set the tread before the trail is opened.  Ash started at the bottom, shaving off "lawn" before reducing the outslope and throwing soil over the stones

We had company, again.  This dude does not like us much and he has been chasing us away from a mound we are keeping inside the trail line.  He doesn't hold back with the stinger and jaws if you pick him up with a leather glove.  We like him.  He's like a ground magpie

The work continued on around our little mate

The turn is starting to look the shiz

We had a visitor who was used as a trail test dummy and tracks were left

The feel of the corner is coming together.  We will also clear debris from the creek line before this trail opens

Today also seemed to be a good day to do some minor maintenance on the new section of Casuarina Loop above the velodrome.  After 140mm of rain in 2 dumps, 8 days apart, there were muddy wheel ruts in the new drainages.  The ridges and ruts have all hardened since then and today Ash shaved the offending bits of trail back to a solid and outsloped base

All in all a great afternoon.  All I need is a new back, but at least I could walk and take pictures for a little while.  Also, there are lots of mozzies around.  Take bug spray when you go in the park.
